| Alanis Morisette started out as a young singer in her hometown Canada where she made her maiden album in 1991 simply entitled "Alanis". The album, although released only in Canada, reached double platinum status, with several hit singles to boot, for which Alanis won Most Promising Female Vocalist at the Juno Awards, the Canadian version of the US Grammy Awards. The year 1992 saw Alanis moving to Los Angeles, hoping to launch a US career. She worked with various musicians, but it was her collaboration work with Glen Ballard which resulted in the album "Jagged Little Pill", released by Maverick Records in 1995, that catapulted Alanis to international stardom. The album spawned several monster hits, including "Hand in My Pocket" and "Ironic", considered to be Alanis' biggest hit. In 1996, the album received six nominations from the Grammy Awards, with Alanis eventually walking away with the Best Rock Song and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance awards. What followed was a series of albums, tours, and more awards for Alanis, capped by her entry into the movies, with "Dogma" as her most memorable film wherein she played God. |
