| Alizie hails from the French island Corsica and became an overnight sensation in Europe via the song "Moi...Lolita", which easily reached #1 on the French music charts. Prior to that, however, Alizie won in a French TV show considered to be the French equivalent of the popular US program Star Search. The victory paved the way for an eventual meeting with pop singer Mylene Farmer and record maker Laurent Boutonnat in the year 2000. After a brief audition, Alizie signed a singing contract. What soon followed was a series of appearances to promote Alizie as the newest French sensation, with "Moi...Lolita" as the perfect backdrop. Consequently, the Gourmandises album came into being which Farmer personally produced for Alizie. The album reached platinum status within three months, establishing Alizie as a major performer in France. A year later, Alizie went international, capturing most of Europe, extending all the way to Canada and even Russia. In England, "Moi...Lolita" received much airplay even without the aid of a translation, something that rarely occurred in the discriminating UK music market. |
