| Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas was born in New York on October 13, 1980 she is an award-winning American singer, record producer, songwriter, model, fashion designer, and actress who first burst into the music scene during the early 2000s. Ashanti shot to stardom when she released her debut album with the hit single Foolish that went gold after selling more than 500,00 copies during its first week. She also was the first female singer who held the two top spots in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in the same week. Soon after, Ashanti broke her own record by being the first performer to have three songs on the top ten slot of the same record chart on the same week. Ashanti then ventured into acting, as she was given parts in the movie Coach Carter, The Muppets' Wizard of Oz., and John Tucker Must Die. She also appeared in some TV series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Ashanti also wrote songs for Toni Braxton and Jennifer Lopez. She also has her own fragrance and clothing line. |
