| A Grammy Award nominated R&B artist, Blu Cantrell was born October 1, 1976 under the name Tiffany Cobb. Her family was probably the biggest influence on her musical career, as she was born in a family of jazz musicians, with her mother being a jazz singer. In 2000, she was discovered by Ted and Laney Stewart -- heads of the Red Zone Entertainment company. She then signed a recording contract with Arista Records and began recording with artists such as Terry Lewis, Jimmy Jam, and Dallas Austin. At that time she was also a back-up singer for other performers such as Faith Evans and P. Diddy, who was then known as Puff Daddy. Cantrell released her debut album in 2001 entitled "So Blu" and achieved a number eight spot in the Billboards 200 Albums chart, with the featured single -- "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" reaching a number two spot in the US Billboards Hot 100 Singles chart. |
