|British American actress Emily Mortimer was born under the name of Emily Kathleen A. Mortimer on the 1st of December 1971 in Finsbury Park, London, England. Emily started performing on stage while studying at Oxford University. She was discovered while working at a student production and was asked to do a small role in the television adaptation of Dame Catherine Cookson's "The Glass Virgin". In 1996, Emily made her debut in the U.S. with the movie "The Ghost and the Darkness" opposite Val Kilmer. Since then, she played several successful films like "Notting Hill", "Scream 3", "Disney's The Kid", "The 51st State", John Woo's war drama "Windtalkers", Woody Allen's "Match Point", "City Island" and recently Martin Scorsese's 2010 film "Shutter Island". She also starred as Esther in the U.S. TV mini-series "Noah's Ark". In 2000, Emily starred in Kenneth Branagh's musical adaptation of "Love's Labour's Lost" and there she met actor and husband Alessandro Nivola. They got married in 2003 and have two children together.||
