| Gabrielle Monique Union, an American actress and former model, was born on October 29, 1972 in Omaha, Nebraska. Her parents, Sylvester and Theresa Union, are of African American descent. At age eight, her family moved to Pleasanton, California, where she grew up. She attended Foothill High School where she became an an all-star point guard and also played soccer and track. Union dated NBA player Jack Bodkin during high school. Union had originally wanted to be a lawyer, but it seems fate has other plans for her. While she was an intern at a modeling agency, a task she undertook to get extra credits at UCLA, an agent signed her up to become a new model. Needing extra cash to pay off college loans and debts, she agreed. At the start of her acting career, Union took in minor roles for movies such as '10 Things I Hate About You' and 'Love and Basketball.' It was her role as Isis in the 2000 teen flick ‘Bring It On’ that catapulted her into stardom. After this, she was cast in the CBS TV drama ‘City of Angels.’ After this, the projects just kept rolling in for Union. Union married NFL player Chris Howard (Jacksonville Jaguars) in May 2001. They separated in November 2005. |
