|The tongue-in-cheek pop sensation was once a Christain folk singer whose mom and dad are both pastors. Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984, the young Katy Perry listened to gospel music, sang in churches, and even released a gospel album in 2001 called "Katy Hudson." The 17-year old Katy Perry then met Glen Ballard who worked on the famous Jagged Little Pill album of Alanis Morissette. With Morisette as one of her inspirations and Ballard as a mentor, Katy Perry then took a new route to her musical career. The 5'8" California beauty then dropped off her good girl image, singing songs like "Ur So Gay," which she posted on her MySpace account. Though the track got her noticed, it was the single "I Kissed a Girl", which was inspired by Scarlett Johansson (whom she admitted to have a big crush on), that became a huge hit. In her debut album "One of the Boys" (2008), she was launched as a new pop artist with an edgy fashion sense and bigger-than-life personality. Her Teenage Dream album (2010) also took the Billboard charts by storm with number one singles. Today, the singer-songwriter is happily married to British comedian Russell Brand.||
